On June 2, 2026, Dr. Michael Hartisch (University of Passau) and Dr. Kevin-Martin Aigner (FAU) organized the minisymposium “Explainability and Interpretability in Optimization” at the SIAM Conference on Optimization (SIAM OP26) in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The minisymposium brought together researchers working at the intersection of mathematical optimization and explainable artificial intelligence. The presentations addressed recent advances in making optimization models and their solutions more transparent, interpretable, and trustworthy, covering both theoretical developments and practical applications.
