An international conference entitled “Advances in Calculus of Variations,” a concerted symposium in honor of Frank Duzaar, an internationally renowned mathematician who, in those very days, will turn 65, will be held from June 13 to 17 at Room B2 in the Pacanowski Palace building of the well-known Campania university in Naples.

The symposium, strongly desired and organized by Mathematical Analysis lecturers Verena Bögelein of the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, Maria Rosaria Formica and Raffaella Giova of the “Parthenope,” Flavia Giannetti and Antonia Passarelli of the “Federico II” University of Naples and Matteo Focardi of the University of Florence, will feature the participation of distinguished mathematicians from around the world.

Scheduled to open the proceedings are the institutional greetings of Antonio Garofalo, Pro-rector for Teaching and Institutional Affairs and sole candidate in the upcoming elections for Rector of Parthenope University, Carlo Sbordone, Academician of the Lincei and professor emeritus of Mathematical Analysis at the “Federico II,” as well as the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Naples, Stefano Ducceschi.

It will be Paolo Marcellini, emeritus of Mathematical Analysis at the University of Florence, who will deliver the laudation of the honoree.
